anyone else seen these? been a lot of build threads on other forums latly and it has got me thinking...wow i can build a 300+ gallon tank for a quarter of the price of buying a glass or acylic one...guy on R2R just built a 460 gal one for about $1300 and then another 300 for the single sheet of 1" starfire glass.

they are using a fiberglass resin and then painting over it with sweetwater epoxy... several guys have had them up like this for goign on 5years plus! dont know how many of you remember Darren from the old old site about 3 years ago. he had a 1400gal plywood tank with a pond liner in it. was an amazing set up! was glad i got to see it in person before he had to tear it down..wish i could find some pictures of it!

so some pros and cons...

pros

of course cost is cheaper for larger tank
less glass to clean haha
can build it yourself! and in any dimensions you want!

cons

only one viewable side besides from above
if have any kind of leak can make the whole structure a risk of breaking from water damage(wood and water dont go together well!)

anyone else have any thing on this? if the house we are tryign to purchase at the moment goes, i will have a complete unfinished basement to do however I (she) wants lol... but she loves the tanks as much as i do and is all for bigger and better, lucky me right? im just kinda thinking of future plans and wanted to start a topic to maybe get some stuff going here on the site and involve some more people! as this could be done with freshwater or salt!

here is one thats going on a few years old now amazing tank!

and here is the one that really inspired me! its actually 560 gallons not 460!!
